Welcome to the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Oregon!

The Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Oregon is one of God’s great gifts to the Episcopal Church. Its sprawling, open spaces enfold one in the grandeur of God’s abundance and generosity. From the heights of the Wallowas to Mt. Hood, to the immense high desert, and across the rolling hills of wheat, the creativity of God surrounds one on every side. The Columbia River to the north and the well lined and tended vineyards and orchards daily make one aware of the textures, twists, turns, challenges, and opportunities that God gives to us.

The people of the Diocese are not unlike the land. Though we are relatively few in our 69,000 sq. mi., we are strong, faithful, and open as the land is. We are also a people who are generous, and seek daily to be faithful in living the Baptism given us by God in the Church. We gather to celebrate Word and Sacrament week by week, and go forth into the world to love and serve the Lord.

This is a Diocese of deep faith, determination, fortitude, and the capacity to reach out, to serve, and to welcome. For any who may be visiting, know that you are most cordially welcomed to join us for liturgy on Sunday morning, or any other time. For those who are moving to Eastern Oregon, welcome! We look forward to getting to know you. As I was instructed, the first thing you need to know is that the name of this place is pronounced, “o’-ry-gun,” no matter what you were taught elsewhere. Again, welcome to all. Know there is a place here for you, that you will be valued, and the gifts you bring of yourself will be received and honored among us.

Written by The Rt. Rev. William O. Gregg, past Bishop of Eastern Oregon
