Some Voices for Cursillo
From Bishop Rustin Kimsey: The 2013 Cursillo Weekend will be offered at Ascension School in Cove, OR May 2-5. If you have not attended a Cursillo, I am encouraging you to do so. Among countless reasons for such encouragement, my focus today is the grace of "strengthening" that Cursillo offers us. Perhaps it is my age but I am very aware of my need to be strengthened in my religious faith and in living the life God intends me to live. Cursillo offers such a gift. It has been described as a "short course in Christianity," but to know the depth of that description you must hear the teachings, add your voice to the dialogue, be served incredible food, laugh with the joy that accompanies emerging community and be immersed in the holiness of space that has been hallowed by countless lives who have left their spiritual imprint on Ascension School. So, if you reflect on these words and join me in needing a healthy dose of "soul strengthening," be in touch with one who has been to Cursillo and express your interest. We would love to welcome you on May 2. Oh, and there is no expense to you for the weekend. It is a gift…..in more ways than one.
From Deb Hucke, Cursillo, 2012: After many years of being offered the opportunity of going to Cursillo, last year I was finally able to make my Cursillo,. Having no knowledge of activities and full of trepidation, I discovered a weekend that was truly a life changing experience. Cursillo is a beautiful, loving event that can only be experienced and not described. Making the choice to go to Cursillo is opportunity that you will not regret.
From Marilyn Roth: What Cursillo meant to me? The first image which pops up in my mind when I think about my experience of Cursillo is being 'bathed in love.' Retreats often inform, or present attendees an opportunity to share their thoughts, but I've never attended a retreat, such as Cursillo, where the focus remains on me during the whole time. You might ask, "How can the focus remain on one person when there are several people attending?" Well, the answer is easy. The volunteers who take part in supporting Cursillo outnumber the candidates who attend. And those volunteers have one thought in mind: support the physical and spiritual wellbeing of the candidate. Cursillo is an amazing opportunity to let down our ongoing responsibilities, and allow someone else to support and love you while you reflect on your spiritual journey, and hear the stories of other people. Give it a try. You won't be sorry.
From Amy McIlvenna: When I got home from Iraq, I struggled with anger, PTSD and whether or not I even wanted to be a nurse. Cursillo helped me regain my faith in God and in myself. I found hope, joy and love amongst my fellow Cursillistas. It was a life changing experience.
